Welcome to A Little Bee-Hind, a mindful East Tennessee apiary rooted in stewardship, education, and a deep respect for the remarkable wisdom of the hive. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near Maryville, Tennessee, we strive to work with the natural behaviors of honey bees while fostering a greater appreciation for the pollinators that sustain our ecosystems and food systems.
Whether you're beginning your beekeeping journey, searching for locally raised bees, exploring pollinator-friendly practices, or simply curious about the world of honey bees, our goal is to help both bees and beekeepers thrive through observation, understanding, and lifelong learning.
Our educational approach is informed by practical experience, ongoing observation, and lessons drawn from respected researchers, educators, and beekeepers whose work continues to deepen our understanding of honey bees and sustainable beekeeping.
Healthy colonies begin with strong genetics, suitable forage, and an environment that allows bees to thrive. We raise locally adapted honey bees selected for traits that support success in East Tennessee, including gentle temperaments, productive brood patterns, winter hardiness, and resilience within our regional climate.
Because our bees are raised in the same environment where they will live and forage, they are well suited to the seasonal rhythms, humidity, nectar flows, and weather conditions of East Tennessee. Whether you are establishing your first hive or expanding an existing apiary, locally raised bees can help reduce transportation stress and support a smoother transition into their new home.

Every colony we offer represents our commitment to thoughtful stewardship, healthy bees, and the long-term success of the beekeepers who care for them.
The gifts of the hive extend far beyond honey. In addition to locally raised bees, we offer raw, unfiltered honey and thoughtfully crafted bee-based products that reflect the diverse blooms and seasonal abundance of East Tennessee.
Our honey is harvested with care and minimally processed to preserve its natural character, flavor, pollen, enzymes, and connection to the landscape from which it came. We also create small-batch beeswax, propolis, and apitherapy-inspired products rooted in respect for both the bees and the traditions that have long recognized the value of hive products.
Education remains at the heart of everything we do. Through our NewBee Corner, Knowledge Patties, workshops, and educational resources, we share practical guidance, seasonal insights, and lessons learned from our own beekeeping journey. Our hope is to encourage thoughtful stewardship, support healthy colonies, and help others discover the remarkable lessons honey bees continue to teach us.
The bees are still teaching us, and we are honored to share that journey with our community.
Knowledge Patties is our growing collection of bee-focused articles, practical insights, frequently asked questions, seasonal observations, and educational resources designed to help beekeepers learn from both the bees and the natural world around them.
